The mullein flower is prolific and local here in my area right next to the Rocky Mountains (I'm in Arvada, a Denver suburb and we're about 40 minutes from the mountains.) The flowers are extremely time consuming to harvest, and in addition to that, I use ONLY a 1:4 ratio of flowers to oil, which is so, so, so, so many flowers in the oil - and takes a massive amount of time. But you know what..... you and I are worth it! Sometimes, depending on season and availability, I'll use mullein leaf oil in this face serum. Mullein leaves are known to be astringent, which is very toning to your facial skin.
An organic crabapple tree lives right next door to me, and I use the precious leaves to make an infused oil. It is astringent, and is soothing and healing for skin.
Other herb-infused oils that sometimes make it into my facial serum are gotu cola oil, yarrow, plantain, chapparal and goldenrod - and the yarrow, plantain and goldenrod grow right here on my property.
Seabuckthorn is amazingly rich in essential fatty acids. The Vit A, E and betacarotene give it a luxurious red-orange color, that when used in a formula, is the best color pick-me-up for my face that I have found! Seabuckthorn Co2 is terrific for damaged skin, which translates not just to mature skin, but is for every outdoor junky in Colorado - as it is so dry here that hiking, skiing, kayaking, biking - you name it, can leave your facial skin wind-chapped, sunburnt, and stretched dry.
The organic Argan oil used in this formula is not local, as it is made from trees that grow wild, high in Morocco's Atlas mountain region. It is a labor intensive process, and I only use the supplier who employs 115 local village women who are responsible for the entire process of production, and greatly benefits the local economy and the welfare of these women. Argan is extremely nourishing and is known as a "dry" oil, which means it deeply enriches skin without leaving a greasy feeling. It's perfect for my facial serum.
Jojoba is a premium carrier oil that is so similar to the sebum that your skin creates, your skin recognizes it as such! While again is not local to me specifically, it grows in dry, arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico- and is a low water use plant!
Rosehip seed CO2 oil is especially beneficial for broken or damaged skin, so it perfect or Colorado athletes and anyone who spends any kind of time outdoors in CO. Wild rosehips are a common plant here in the Colorado mountains and foothills, and I recommend using plants that thrive in the area you are trying to thrive in.
The essential oil blend in this product are phenomenal for optimal skin health, but the three essential oils that are brand new to my facial care line and I am currently most excited about are Pinion Pine, Utah Juniper and Big Sage. These essential oils are so special because they all grow and thrive in the Colorado Plateau, and are local to me. I have met and worked with the distiller and these plants are simply "beyond sustainable" as these essential oils are only made from plants that were going to be destroyed anyway. So no water wasted or land utilized to grow special plants - these harvested plants are from overgrown boughs on mountain roads cut with forest service permit. Or plants that perhaps a local rancher wants moved to put in a road - the plants that come out are then made into essential oils. It is so very special. Again, use what is around you, and letting nothing go to waste is a brilliant way to live.
Apply anywhere from a dime-sized to quarter-sized amount to clean skin using an upward, circular motion. Apply 3-4 times a day to heal dry skin. For best results, add this to our Facial Kit regimen below.
