Leaky Gut Tea

from $18.25
(2.5 oz and 5.5 oz)

Cool and refreshing. My kids, (aged 12 & 9) asked for seconds on this tea, which really surprised me:) But I think that is a testament to the soothing taste of this tea.

When referring to "gut", it most often means the intestines. (I used to think gut meant stomach!) The small intestine specifically is where most of your nutrients are extracted and absorbed from your food. The teeth grind the food, the stomach starts the digestion process, and if enough digesting hasn't happened to your food- -small particles can start "leaking"from your intestines. Food sensitivities, NSAIDS, alcohol, and other substances can all contribute to your intestines leaking too. Not what we want:( We then develop symptoms, because food is most definitely supposed to stay in the intestines.

Leaky Gut Tea contains herbs that are vulneraries: herbs that help heal damaged or irritated tissue - and that tissue can be both inside and outside the body - so these herbs are acting on the insides of your intestines -specifically the intestinal mucosa.
Several of the herbs in this tea are carminatives, which help dispel gas. How do carminatives do that? It is the volatile oils in carminative herbs that calm and soothe the gut. Gas is typically caused from the the pressure in the bowels and/or spastic action of the intestinal walls. Gas is often a symptom of intestinal permeability and these herbs help soothe that pain.
Several more of the herbs in this tea are bitters, which help support the stimulation of digestive action in the gut and help support the stimulation of bile acid production- -which is crucial to healing a damaged gut!
Almost all of the herbs in this tea are anti-inflammatory, and several specific to an inflamed gut tissue. Inflamed gut tissue can't do the job of breaking down and digesting food and will eventually "leak", so you can see the importance of calming down the intestinal tissues.
Antioxidant and gastroprotective are also in the list.
Many of the herbs are nutritive, which means you are just getting good solid nutrition from these herbs, and having the herbs in a tea like this make the nutrition even MORE assimilable to your body:) Your body will thank you!

****I learned the basis of this formula over 20 years ago from my esteemed herbal teacher, Paul Bergner, and then added my favorite additional gut specific herbs. If you want to do a deep dive into practicing herbalism, I would heartily recommend Paul's herbal programs at http://www.naimh.com/. But for everything else, I'll keep selling products and seeing clients:)

Many times, single products alone don't alleviate the problems we are using them for. If you don't get the results you want, I would suggest the following:

1) Use this tea in conjunction with my product "Gut, Heal and Soothe": Use the tea one day and the Gut, Heal and Soothe powder the next, and back and forth like that. Mucilaginous herbs like Marshmallow root are specific to soothe mucosal irritation and will help repair digestive mucous membranes.
2) Additionally use "Seaweed Magic": Add 1/2 cup of Seaweed Magic to each batch of bone broth that you make. Bone Broth contains collagen peptides and glycosaminoglycans that help repair the gut. Seaweed adds sulfated polysaccharides that help with immune-modulating and mucosa-restoring.
3) I rarely see results for people if they are not eliminating their food sensitivities. I've found the best way to figure out your food sensitivities is do an elimination diet. Making sure you are doing this correctly can sometimes be tricky. I offer my clients a step-by-step guide, including an information filled workbook, when they sign up as a client of mine. Not only do we figure out food sensitivities, I will create a customized plan to help repair the gut, including recipes!
4) Eliminating NSAIDS, alcohol, gluten, sugar, refined carbs and possibly some other top allergenic foods can help someone repair their gut.
5) If still not seeing results, addressing low MSH, melanocyte-stimulating hormone, heavy metals and other toxins can be critical to healing your gut.
6) Supplementing with probiotics, berberine herbs, digestive enzymes and additional supplements such as phosphatidylcholine and others may help with gut repair. (If signed up as a client with me, I'll provide you with a list of supplements specifically chosen for your own particular case.)
7) Test for SIBO, gut infections, address HPA axis dysregulation.

This herbal tea is best prepared as an infusion. An infusion is a tea that has boiling hot water poured over the tea and then is steeped for at least 2 hours and can be left overnight steeping. Then strain, chill if desired or warm to drink. Your choice. An average adult should usually drink 1 quart a day to support their body in overcoming whatever is ailing them. An infusion is also a terrific way to ingest and absorb all the medicinal qualities of herbs. The boiling water bursts cell walls, releasing constituents into the water; then this new medicinal tea then helps break down even more cell walls and releasing even more constituents. The long steeping releases so many more nutrients and medicinal components to make a super helpful tea. The long-steeping of a tea also can be seen as a sort of "pre-digestion". Meaning that the herbal tea has already started breaking down from the boiling water and long-steeping like I described, and this just makes it even easier for the body to absorb these terrific nutrients.
Instructions: Place 2 TBS or a 1/4 cup of Leaky Gut Tea into a stainless steel cooking pot or other container. My favorite is a mason canning jar. Then pour 1 quart of boiling water over the herbal tea. Cover and steep for at least 2 hours and up to overnight. Make this in large batches and save in the fridge. Some herbal tea infusions don't last more than 3 days in the fridge and some last up to a week. A lot of times its just how cold you keep your fridge.

Usual suggestion for a normal adult is to drink 32 ounces a day. A great idea is to split the quart all throughout the day.
Maybe cut back to 20 ounces a day for a 100-lb child. And split the ounces into 3-4 divided cups a day.
And think about cutting back to 10 ounces a day for a 50-lb child. And same here. Split the 10ounces up throughout the day.

The 2.5 ounce bag makes 7-8 quarts of tea.
