Scutellaria baicalensis Tincture, 1:5 50%, dry

Scutellaria baicalensis is the Chinese Scullcap, and is not to be confused with the American scullcap of Scutellaria lateriflora.

Scutellaria baicalensis is an antimicrobial and antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergy and adds support for digestive symptoms and as Stephen Buhner writes, is a great synergist, which basically means it helps the other herbs you are taking work better. But this also includes pharmaceuticals, so make sure that you do not have any contraindications to Scutellaria baicalensis before taking.

While we're on the topic of Stephen Buhner, I am fully aware that he has written that Scutellaria baicalensis is fairly worthless if not fresh, or freshly dried. While I respect his research, many other herbalists, including many Chinese herbalists, do not find the fresh herb use to be necessary. I started working with Scutellaria baicalensis many years ago after reading Alan Tillotson's book and Scutellaria baicalensis' affinity to help with inflammation and allergies. I also then worked with it more after Buhner started discussing this herb as part of his Lyme protocol.

Scutellaria baicalensis is used to support those with a high fever, flu and pnuemonia and any of the accompanying symptoms of irratibility, thirst, cough and mucus.

While Scutellaria baicalensis can help with diarrhea, diarrhea can also be a possible side effect.

But because of its high melatonin, many use it to help with sleep. It's use extends to respiratory infections, GI tract inflammation, inflammation of the brain and more.

Again - please research on your own to make sure you don't have any contraindications to Scutellaria baicalensis before taking.

Alan Tillotson only recommends Scutellaria baicalensis as 10% of a formula so then could be used safely over a longer period of time. I tend to follow these instructions. I may use this herb by itself for a short, say two week usage, then stop using for a week, and then include it as 10% of a formula for a longer period of time.

+++++DOSAGE+++++
For an acute dosage, take 1/4-1 teaspoon every 3-4 hours. Discontinue using for 1 week. Then add back in at 10% of a formula. I have however heard of people who have taken larger doses (larger than the 10% of a formula) over a longer period of time and they experienced no side effects. So you might need to play with your dosage.

+++++INFORMATION ABOUT MY TINCTURES+++++
I'm so excited to now offer tinctures, syrups, elixirs, vinegars and more remedies on my Etsy site! And I'm offering these items for a great deal less than others are selling these items. Why? For a few reasons.

One, because many of these tinctures and remedies have been created through the many classes I teach. I have to mix up the formula BEFORE the class, then we create the formula again IN class, and every time, I have quite a bit of the finished formula left over. Which I have used these additional remedies in my own home medicine cabinet for years, but now I just have TOO much plant medicine for my family to use alone. So I offer these remedies to you at this superb discount so that you too can use herbal remedies in a cost effective manner. I'm well-trained (and teach many classes) on the proper weight to volume tincture creation for each herb, and I research Moore, Tilgner, Buhner, Easley, Cech and others to decide which percentage of alcohol is best for each herb. My herbs almost exclusively organic and the few I can't get organically, are wildcrafted. The herbs are also continually rotated through, so I never have old, useless herbs being used as medicine.

Another reason is that I want to carry a few tinctures and remedies that I use quite often with my own clients. So some medicines I want to be cost effectively available for my clientele.

And lastly, in addition to tinctures and remedies from my classes and for clients, I also grow what is getting to be a large herb garden at my home. I mostly grow herbs for my herbal products to be infused in oils, but some herbs I just grow because I am fascinated with them, or I want to see all the stages of growth from the beginning to end of a particular herb. And often once I harvest these herbs, I'll put them directly into alcohol to make a tincture. And it usually makes a LOT! A perfect example of this is my elecampane tincture. I watched and watered and grew this plant for two beautiful years, so I could harvest the 2nd year root. It was a fascinating experience as I watched this plant grow more than 7 feet tall, gorgeous yellow flowers blooming and when I dug up the root, which took help from my husband and kids, there was SO MUCH root. So I put it all in alcohol and now have the most incredible brownish rose colored tincture to sell here on Etsy. So much love goes into these tinctures and remedies - but take advantage of these medicines now! As the tinctures with my handwritten ingredients on them, likely won't be replenished. Once I sell out, I likely won't make more. Green Blessings to you and hope you enjoy the magick of herbal medicine!
