Elderberry Concentrate
I've been able to secure more organic elderberries to make this product! Though the elderberries were almost 3 times the amount per pound than what I had paid before - but luckily it doesn't raise the price of the Elderberry Concentrate too much more. Hopefully, we'll see the price of elderberries come back down as the summer comes.
This is a triple-extracted elderberry concentrate!
First, I made a decoction from the elderberries. This is similar to how most elderberry syrup's are created, which is basically a strong tea. However, I use one distinct difference - is that I do NOT long simmer my elderberry decoction, as the anti-oxidant properties can be sensitive to heat. Elderberry's anti-viral properties are not destroyed by heat, so the typical elderberry syrup you find will still have it's anti-viral properties. But I wanted to include the incredibly nutritious anti-oxidants and free-radical scavenging, health benefiting properties of elderberries in my elixir also. So no long simmer or elderberry syrup for me, only a short thermal application to preserve the antioxidant qualities.

So, once I have the strong decoction (intact with antioxidant properties), I then combine the decoction with a tincture of elderberry, which pulls out additional medicinal constituents. I also make an infused honey with elderberries and combine this also. So my Elderberry Concentrate has THREE different types of elderberry medicine to improve and support your health. This concentrate is shelf-stable, includes the health promoting benefits from raw, Colorado honey, which is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory, and is a perfect addition to support your body during colds and flu, during recovery of any illness, and overall improving your health, in addition to being a much lower sugar content than most elderberry syrups.

Elderberries are known to be high in quercetin, which is extremely beneficial for histamine intolerant folks aka MCAS sufferers. My Elderberry Concentrate is specifically created to help those with histamine issues who may not be able to utilize other elderberry extracts, because these extracts may contain other herbs that trigger histamine issues. Additionally, antioxidants are known to help reduce histamine sensitivity. And most elderberry syrups are simmered too long to have very many antioxidants left. This extract is specific to saving almost all the antioxidant properties.
This is not a ZERO histamine remedy, as it does contain alcohol, and some sufferers cannot tolerate even drops of alcohol. But overall, it is a low histamine extract and extremely beneficial for those who can't tolerate other extracts for cold and flu. CAUTION: there seems to be around 15% of people with autoimmune issues that cannot tolerate elderberry. Which I have used these additional remedies in my own home medicine cabinet for years, but now I just have TOO much plant medicine for my family to use alone. I'm well-trained (and teach many classes) on the proper weight to volume tincture creation for each herb, and I research Moore, Tilgner, Buhner, Easley, Cech and others to decide which percentage of alcohol is best for each herb.
